About College

The southern part of this region, adjacent to the sacred city of Lord Rama — Ayodhya — plays joyfully with the rippling, holy waves of the divine river Saryu, while its northern part touches the foothills of the mighty Himalayas.

The district of Gonda, where Nandini Nagar Mahavidyalaya is situated, was known in ancient times as Gonarda, meaning “the place where cows rejoice.” This ancient forested land was not only enriched by the presence of cows but also made vibrant and spiritually alive by the penance and wisdom of sages and scholars who organized and enhanced the sacred literature of ancient India.

The land where the college now stands lies at the southern edge of Gonda district, close to Ayodhya and the river Saryu. It is believed that this very land once hosted the ashram of Sage Vashishtha, the revered guru of the Raghu dynasty. It was here that Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and their brothers received their education.

Sage Vashishtha’s divine cow, Nandini, was known for her miraculous powers and sanctity. By her grace, King Dilipa of Ayodhya, of the solar dynasty, was blessed with the valiant son Raghu. The great poet Kalidasa, bound by reverence for King Raghu, composed his celebrated epic “Raghuvansham”, in which he described at length the glory of Nandini.

Inspired by this radiant and illustrious legacy, Nandini Nagar Mahavidyalaya was founded on November 11, 1994. At its core was Shri Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Ji, a son of this sacred soil. He was deeply inspired by the idea that this land — once filled with ancient glory — should again become a center of compassion, virtue, courage, prosperity, and the spread of knowledge and science.

A witness to his noble vision are the 45 educational institutions at both college and secondary levels that he has founded and manages. Shri Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Ji is regarded as an eminent educationist of the Devipatan region, much like Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya was for Banaras. His dedication and tireless efforts toward education and enlightenment have not only elevated this college’s stature but have also filled it with limitless potential.

Today, Nandini Nagar Postgraduate College is steadily advancing and expanding, spread over 55 acres of land. The institution houses 200 classrooms, a gymnasium, an indoor hall, an auditorium, and 40 laboratories across various disciplines. The college also provides residential facilities, with a 250-room hostel for boys and girls and a 27-room faculty hostel, which is planned to be expanded further.

Across multiple faculties, the college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in over two dozen courses — ranging from traditional disciplines that uphold the dignity of education to modern, career-oriented, and life-relevant subjects. Several new visionary projects are also underway, expected to be realized in the coming academic sessions.
